The Bradbury-Class is a Fast Frigate. First launched in 2363, several vessels of the class continue to serve in Starfleet including in the Rapid Deployment Force.

History[]

The U.S.S. Bradbury was designed as a testbed for new warp drive technology. Solving problems in the design took several years and it wasn't until 2369 that the second ship of the class, U.S.S. Tolkien, was launched.

Appearance[]

The ‘’Bradbury’’-class is a variant on the usual Starfleet ship design. It has an arrow-head shaped saucer section and a roughly trapzoidal stardrive section.

In some ways she resembles an ‘’Intrepid’’-class vessel, except the ‘’Bradbury’’-class has far larger warp nacelles and the torpedo-launching pod mounted on the top of the stardrive section, looking over the saucer.

Capabilities[]

The ‘’Bradbury’’-class was designed for speed, and is often used in situations where anything less than the fastest ship in the fleet will not suffice. On launch of the pathfinder in 2363 their maximum cruising speed was placed at Warp 9, but refits in 2369 and 2380 have continually upped the cruising and maximum speed of this vessel. ‘’Bradbury’’-class vessels can now travel comfortably at Warp 9.2, and in extreme situations have polled Warp 9.975 - albeit only for a couple of hours and with serious refuelling & repair work required afterwards.

The ‘’Bradbury’’-class are a family of small vessels, at only 10 decks high. Her small size and aerodynamic shape means she is capable of operating in atmosphere and even of landing.

Despite being a small vessel, the ‘’Bradbury’’-class has an unusually large amount of torpedo launchers due to the torpedo pod installed as part of the 2369 refit.
